How to Carry Exam Information Into Future Visits
Some providers prefer that exam information carries over from one visit to the next, while others only perform exams periodically. By default, exams do not automatically transfer to future visits since they are on a different treatment note template, but there are two simple ways to configure your workflow so your exam notes will appear on future visits.
Option 1: Use a Dedicated Exam Template (Recommended for Regular Exams)
- Create a dedicated "Exam" note template: How To: Custom Treatment Notes
- Use this template only for exam/re-exam visits.
- When you use this exam note for a patient, the system will ditto the previous exam into the new one, allowing you to review and update it with ease.
This ensures consistency and saves time for any visit where an exam is performed.
Option 2: Add an Exam Section to Your Daily Note
If you prefer to use only a daily note and perform exams less frequently:
- Edit your daily note template: How To: Custom Treatment Notes
- Add a dedicated Exam or Evaluation section that contains all your exam fields.
- On days when you perform an exam, simply enable the section using the "include/exclude" icon (green = visible/enabled, red = hidden/disabled):

- The section will only appear on visits where the section is included.
Now, keep in mind when you choose to include the section (by ensuring there is a green check box for that section, the previous exam information has already dittoed over. Now change what's different and you are good to go.
This method keeps your daily notes clean while still allowing exam documentation whenever needed.
