Why Your Date Picker Looks Different on Every Device (and Why That’s Actually a Good Thing)

One Link, Every Device: Making Digital Intake Simple for Patients

Remember when patients filled out clipboards in the waiting room? Those days are gone. Today, our EHR software sends a secure, mobile-friendly, unique link that lets patients complete forms anytime, anywhere—on any device they choose. Whether a patient opens it on a Windows laptop, an iPad, iPhone, an Android phone, or even a decade-old PC running Chrome, the form adapts perfectly.

With that being said, the date picker behaves a little differently depending on the device or browser.

  • Each browser and operating system uses its own built-in date picker.
  • iPhone users see the familiar “rolling wheel.”
  • Android might show a calendar pop-up.
  • Desktop browsers vary (Chrome vs. Safari vs. Firefox)

The variation comes from each platform’s native interface. Our software keeps data entry consistent and secure, but allows each device to handle the date field in the way users expect.

By using native date pickers, patients experience a familiar interface, reducing errors and confusion. Whether they tap, scroll, or click, the result is the same—accurate, secure patient information in your EHR. We designed our webforms to meet patients where they are—on whatever device they have. The goal isn’t identical visuals; it’s effortless completion.

We understand this can be frustrating for patients that aren't tech savvy to begin with. The good thing with ChiroSpring is we have options!

  1. The patient mobile app doesn't require the Date of Birth to complete forms, this could be an easier way for patient's.
  2. You could have a patient digital form link on your website with your main forms and send patients there to complete.  Here there is not a date of birth picker to complete, the downside is you have to link them from your Homepage in 360 to the patient file.
  3. Lastly, they can complete the forms in office through your self check in program

EXAMPLES:

iOS (iPhone / iPad)

On Apple devices you’ll often see:

  • A “wheel” style scroller (especially for time or older OS versions)
  • Or an inline calendar grid that pops up (month view)

The takeaway: when your patient taps the “Date of Birth” field on an iPhone or iPad, they’ll likely receive a native UI component that looks familiar to them.

Android / Chrome / General mobile browser

On Android devices (or mobile browsers other than Safari) you’ll see things like:

  • A calendar popup that maybe slides in from bottom/top
  • Different styling depending on manufacturer and browser

It confirms: your webform remains device-agnostic, but the date picker interface will adapt to the environment.

  • You can usually click on the Month/Year in the upper middle to navigate back quicker

Desktop / Mac / Laptop browsers

On laptops or desktops:

  • The “Date of Birth” field may trigger a small calendar overlay or dropdown
  • The UI might look completely different from mobile — but under the hood your form is capturing the same data

So no matter what platform the patient uses, the data result is the same.
