📝 What Is a Rich Text Email?

Rich Text Email is an email format that allows you to include styled text (like bold, italics, and colored fonts), images, links, and other visual elements. It’s similar to writing a document in a word processor like Microsoft Word.

This is different from a Plain Text Email, which contains only unformatted text—no images, no clickable links, and no styling.

📊 Rich Text vs. Plain Text Emails: Pros and Cons

Feature Rich Text Email Plain Text Email
Appearance Visually appealing with formatting, images, and layout Simple, text-only
Engagement Higher engagement with formatting, links, and visuals Feels more personal and direct
Deliverability May be flagged by spam filters if over-designed More likely to reach inboxes
Accessibility May not render well on all devices or email clients Universally readable
Editing Requires more time and design effort Quick to write and send
Tracking Supports open/click tracking and analytics Limited tracking capabilities

âś… When to Use Each

  • Use Rich Text when:
    • You’re sending newsletters, promotions, or marketing emails.
    • You want to include branding, images, or call-to-action links.

      Use Plain Text when:

    • You’re sending personal or sensitive messages.
    • You want to ensure maximum deliverability and readability.

📱 Email Rendering Considerations

When creating Rich Text Emails in ChiroSpring 360, it's important to remember that not all email platforms display emails the same way. While your message may look perfect in Outlook, it might appear differently in Gmail, Yahoo, or on mobile devices. This is especially true for inline images—some platforms (like Gmail) may display them as attachments instead of within the body of the email. ChiroSpring 360 uses standard methods to embed images, but the final appearance depends on the recipient’s email provider and settings. Additionally, some users may have their inboxes configured to display only plain text emails, which strips out all formatting and images. To ensure your message is clear and effective across platforms, keep your design simple, include descriptive alt text for images, and always preview your email before sending.

Building an Email with ChiroSpring 360's Email Tools

From a Patient's Communicator Dashboard, when you click on Email, it will open up the history pane to the left and the email composer to the right. It auto fills the patient's email address for you, you can see to the far right you have CC and BCC options.

You will also want to include a Subject Line for your Email.

The circled icons above are the formatting tools included with ChiroSpring's Email Builder. These are Rich Text Formatting options that are quick, easy and simple to use. When you hover each icon, it will say what it does.

Remember to keep the tips in mind from earlier in our article when formatting your emails. I have a microsoft and gmail account and I test emails to both to have an idea of how each will render in the recipients inbox.

To create a Plain Text Email, just don't use any formatting options.

You are not able to link an image, only text. We recommend including a descriptor before or after the image, should it not render inline and then can include the link separate in that descriptor text.

There are icons in the bottom, left corner of the email composer. Here you can attach a file to the email, select and use a template (with GrowthHub Pro), save the Email you just built as a template (with GrowthHub Pro), and the person icon allows you to personalize your communications.

And you have a SEND button at the top and bottom of the email composer, so it's much easier to find no matter device you are on.

Click to insert the patient's full name or first name. It will enter look like the above image once inserted:

&PatientFirstName& or &PatientName&.
